It was quite interesting to observe day by day how quickly pieces of the old building just dissapeared. It was like an autopsy but on a building, as they drilled and hammered through all the layers and floors. One could see all the structural detail and steel reinforcement and old bricks crumble into pieces.
20th March 2012:
Up to now they have dug out all the old concrete footings that looked like giant boulders and drilled it into bits with large drilling machines the size of an 18 wheeler truck. (which caused the unbearable noise)They drove away all the access soil leaving a big hole in the site. Now they are busy digging the hole deeper for the new foundation and driving away the access soil.
28th March:
Today I saw that they had big machines positioned on the sides that were drilling deep holes in the sides of the ditch. Steel rods were fixed in the holes that stick out to use as bracing to the adjacent buildings for the foundation.
29 March:
They were still drilling today. I also saw how they sprayed cement to cover up the steel mesh and fix it to the sides creating a wall once its dry.
15 April:
While the digger moved away earth the manual labourers worked on the mesh securing the sides so it won't cave in.
3 May:.
Here the trench is tremendously deeper and they have special large scale drilling machines to break the rocky foundation.
